Q: Is it obligatory for women to wear a chador?
A: It is not obligatory for women to waer a chador unless they want to visit the holy shrine. However, wearing a headscarf is a must in public and wherever men are around.

Q: Is it OK to wear a tie in Iran?
A: Wearing a tie is not forbidden, but it is not a norm for most Iranians except among more modern people in wedding ceremonies and the like.

Q: Can men wear shorts in public?
A: Men are not allowed to wear shorts in public, but wearing short-sleeved shirts is common among the youth.

Q: Can tourists drink alcohol in Iran?
A: Carrying and drinking alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden.

Q: What about narcotics?
A: Narcotics are also strictly forbidden.

Q: Is it safe to drink tap water in Iran?
A: Tap water is safe to drink, but you can also buy mineral water at supermarkets.

Q: What is the Iranian currency and what coins and bank notes are available?
A: The Iranian currency is the Rial. The "Tooman" is also a common unit which is equivalent to 10 Rials. There are coins of 50, 100 and 250 Rials and bank notes of 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10000 Rials. 100-Rial notes can also be found but are not commonly used. You can exchange money in any bank or money exchange shop. There is no difference between the bank and the black market rate. Few shops and hotels accept credit card, but it is always better to have cash money with you.

Q: Can women drive in Iran?
A: Women have the same freedom as men to drive. International driving licenses are accepted by the police everywhere.

Q: What is the common power supply voltage and what kind of plugs are used?
A: The power supply in Iran is 220 volts, 50 cycles AC. Double-pin plugs are used in most cases.

Q: What telecommunication facilities are available?
A: Telephone, fax, e-mail, and the Internet are avialable.

Q: Can I use a handycam to videotape interesting scenes while sightseeing?
A: You can carry and use a handycam or other recording device anywhere except in security departments, military bases and the Holy Shrine. Don't forget to declare your recording deviceon arrival.

Q: What transportation facilities are available?
A: Local taxies and other transportation facilities are available everywhere.

Q: Are there any English language newspapers?
A: Yes, there are some daily English papers.

Q: Is it OK for tourists to take Photographs while sightseeing?
A: Taking photos is allowed except in the Holy Shrine( the interior), military areas and security places. You can take pictures of Iranian families and clergymen, but you should ask for their permission first.

Q: Can tourists enter the holy shrine?
A: All non-Muslim visitors need special permission( obtainable through our agency) to enter the courtyard of the holy shrine and visit the Museum.
